Sinds januari 2006 heb ik deze site in de lucht. In het begin als een normaal blog, daarna meer gericht op beachvolleybal mijn passie. Tijdens mijn Azie trip (mei 2008) is de site echt actief gebruikt. Daarna is het een combinatie van real life en beachvolleybal geworden. Vanaf 2009 is het een combinatie van beachvolleybal en topcoach5 opleiding die de voornaamste inhoud bepalen. Zoals altijd, reageer en maak mijn site op die manier levend.

What a wonderful title to describe last evening’s home game of the clippers. This is to be found on the NBA site. At 7.30pm we watched the Clippers fighting the Suns in a game where defense just didn’t exist. You can hardly call this basketball, but it is entertaining for sure. The game ended with the following score: 127 – 101 in favor of the Suns.
Ben had never seen the Clippers life in action and Kevin used to work for the Clippers, which gave us good tickets for a low price.
What was new to me, for some reason I missed this the first time I was there, was Clipper Darrel. This is the Ultimate Clipper fan! I have included an image and a short movie of Clipper Darrel in action. Enjoy!
The other thing that impressed me was Steve Nash, point guard of the Suns. He is a very inspirational player to watch. He may not be the fastest and strongest point guard there is. But he understands the game better then anyone else in the NBA. It is a joy to watch him perform his magic. That was my last NBA match this visit to the USA. It was great to watch it, thanks guys!
Yesterday Ben Carney and his friend Kevin took out to see Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and another Clipper game. I will write about the Clipper game another time. I had never been to downtown LA before so I was very excited to go there.
Due to the upcoming Oscars the Hollywood Blv was somewhat different then it usually is. Cars where no longer allowed around the Kodak Theatre (where the ceremony takes place). So it gave an unique and different impression. I can say that I have walked the red carpet that the stars will be on next Sunday, so that is something indeed.
We had a very good (American) lunch at a place called Johnny Rocket's, which is an old fashioned Burger place that serves some nice burgers. Realy nice to be in one of the's 50's lunch rooms.
After walking the walk of fame we left for West Hollywood & Beverly Hills. Beverly is the "rich & famous" place of Los Angeles. You have Rodeo Dr that has the most expensive shops all over Los Angeles. We drove that street up & down, no use getting out (as if I can afford anything there). But all style companies have their shops there, Ferarri, Masserati, Rolls Royce, Rolex, you name it and it is there. West Hollywood is the party area of town, because it was during the day, we just drove through it. We had to, no other way to get to the Hills.
After that, we drove through town to get to the Staples Center again. An interesting ride with many things to see for a tourist like myself. I will tell you more about the Clippers & Suns later on.
Gister (zondag de 28ste) hebben we ons eerste toernooi gespeeld. Dit was het Huntington Beach Pro tournament dat door een aantal AVP spelers georganiseerd wordt.
Nadat het toernooi een dag was uitgesteld was de opkomst best goed. Zo waren er 24 dames teams en 36 heren teams actief.
In eerste instantie zijn we in een poule van 3 ingedeeld, daar speelde we "best of 3" wedstrijden. Er was een echt beginnend team en een team waar we al eerder tegen gespeeld hebben in Hermosa (Aurora and Laryssa). De eerste wedstrijd wonnen we echt te gemakkelijk. Tegen Aurora and Laryssa ging het wat lastiger, maar die wonnen we in de 3e set vrij gemakkelijk met 15-6.
Als winnaar in de poule gingen we het middag programma in. dat was de wel bekende afval race, dus bij verlies kan je naar huis toe. De 1e wedstrijd was weer zeer gemakkelijk, gevolgd door een bye (wat nog makkelijker is).
Daarna in de kwart finale een wedstrijd tegen een team uit Hermosa/Redondo Beach. Twee lange meiden, waarbij de 1e set vrij gemakkelijk naar ons kwam, helaas keerde het tij aan het eind van die set en verloren wij die net aan. De 2e set was duidelijk en gemakkelijk voor ons. In de 3e set liepen wij helaas vanaf het begin 3 puntjes achter, dat hebben we niet kunnen omdraaien. Daarmee eindigde ons avontuur in Huntington Beach.
Overigens hebben de dames als prijs een beide een kappersbon van $ 75 gekregen, dus dat is wel weer aardig.
Op naar het volgende toernooi, komende zaterdag de Manhattan Beach Open!
Vandaag zouden we een toernooi spelen op Huntington Beach, ongeveer 45 minuten naar het zuiden van Hermosa Beach. Daar aangekomen was het toernooi uitgesteld i.v.m. het slechte weer. Dus wij weer een beetje koffie drinken en winkelen.
Komen we om 10.30 terug bij de toernooi leiding, blijkt dat we het strand niet meer op mogen. Er is een Tsunami Alert omdat er een aardbeving in Chili heeft plaatsgevonden. Daarmee komt een abrupt en vroegtijdig einde aan ons 1e toernooi in de USA.
Gelukkig voor ons is er hier weinig aan de hand, er is een iets hogere "surf" dan normaal, maar je ziet er niet echt een tsunami in. Het gevaar voor hier is inmiddels geweken, dus vrees niet. Het toernooi wordt nu morgen gespeeld, dus mijn downtown avontuur is uitgesteld en we zullen dus wel spelen. Morgen meer nieuws over het toernooi.
I did it, finally I have a MacBook Pro, this is what it looks like. Ik ben er echt erg blij mee, ik snap er nog niets van en moet echt alles weer opnieuw uitvinden. Wat ben ik vast geroest aan een PC zeg, echt niet normaal!
Vanmorgen onderweg naar de training stonden Olympisch Kampioenen Phil Dalhousser & Todd Rogers te trainen. Ik herken niet zo goed tegen wie ze aan het trainen waren, maar het is wel erg leuk om deze twee te zien trainen.
Het niveau dat ze daar laten zien is echt enorm hoog. Gewoon echt genieten, dus maar een paar foto's van genomen. Een van de twee (de kleine) trainingspartners was Will Strickland, de andere (blokkerder) is mij echt onbekend.
Vandaag maakt de AVP beelden & interviews van de topteams. Dus aan zowel de heren als dames kant zijn er een aantal celeberties te zien. Best wel leuk dus voor een donderdagochtend.
Grappig om te zien dat het Griekse Heren Beach Volleyball programma zich hier recht voor het appartement af speelt.
Je zou haast denken dat ze in het warme en zonnige Griekenland zelf kunnen trainen. Maar er is kennelijk toch een goede reden voor de Grieken om ook hier in Hermosa te zitten.
Anyways, ze zijn dus vandaag begonnen met hun trainingen. Geen idee hoe lang ze hier zijn, maar wel leuk om te zien dat we niet meer de enige Europeanen zijn.
Sunday morning Ben Carney picked me up again at my appartment for a tour to his neighbourhood. Just so I have an impression of where he hangs out and what he does at his days off. Basically it all comes down to a few nice but easy going things: "Sunday Funday" is the motto. It is all about sports (surfing, basketball, volleyball) and food & drinks & girls. So all in all it is not such a bad life in southern California.
We had breakfast in Huntington Beach, at Sharkeez (lousy service) where I noticed my first Mimosa (which is a drink that many young people drink on funday's. It is Champagne with Orange Juice). Actually it makes both drinks drinkable, seperately they are not that good to drink.
From there we travelled south to Newport Beach. Well known from the TV Series the O.C. I made some pictures there and bought a T-shirt for Rens. Of course we had a Mimosa there as well, for some reason they are quite appealing.
Next beach was Laguna Beach, which is a nice town with many art galleries. You can buy nice things there for about $ 100,000 and more. But it also has a very nice coastline and this part of the journey inclueded many miles of walking up & down again.
Then after Irvine Spectrum Center and In-N-Out we returned back at Hermosa Beach. Where we had one more drink and bought some tickets to see the next week Jay Leno Show at the Comedy & Magic Club. To be continued next Sunday.
